Passion Level 6
In a wolf pack, the leader of the pack never fawns over the rest of the pack. The pups and the other members of the wolf pack will come up to the leader and rub up against him, but the leader will be aloof, and accept their submission. This action by the leader of the pack lets the rest of the pack know who is in charge and who is in control. The same works for dogs. When you get a dog you fawn over it and give it all of your attention. And you wonder why it is overly aggressive and overbearing, it is because you fawned over it, and it thinks that it is the one in charge. If you want to be in charge of your dog, you need to ignore it and let it come to you and beg for the food and the protection. When you give your dog lots of attention, and it thinks it is the leader, and you try to control it with your commands it gets confused about which one is the leader.
The same thing happens in human packs. When a famous person or a movie star appears in your vicinity everyone runs to the movie star to bathe in their glory. If a movie star ran over to you begging for your phone number asking for your autograph, you would become quite upset. If you want to become the leader in your pack or group, you need to give less fucks, and have everyone come to you instead of you going to them.
In the real world people that are incredibly wealthy and powerful do not normally seek out others for investment, or to engage others in a process. If you want them to invest or aid you with your passion, you need to go to their place, in their time and humbly approach them. If Bill Gates showed up at your front door wanting to invest in your knitting program saying that this would save the world, you would lose your respect and admiration for him.
If you want others to follow your passion and help you, you need to establish yourself as a leader. This means that you do not beg and plead with others to help you. This means that you are not concerned if your passion has value or not. This means that you will follow your passion despite the efforts of others who try to stop you. If no one wants to join you, you will be off alone dancing by yourself. If what you have is of value, eventually a few people will show interest in what you are doing and want to join you. When your group has become large enough, then others will want to join you and follow your passion because it is the “cool thing to do”.
This is one reason why people do not like network marketing people. They are always trying to approach you and flatter you to convince you to join in with their program. If they would make it more difficult to join a network marketing company, they would find it much easier to recruit people. If you have a program and make it more elite and more difficult to join, and people actually have to invest a substantial amount of money and time, it will be easier for you to get them to join.
National Geographic did this originally by only allowing people to purchase their magazines who had received a recommendation from other members of the National Geographic Society. This made what they were offering much more valuable. Facebook did the same thing when it first came out by putting restrictions and qualifications for those who could join. At first it was for Ivy League Universities only, this created a desire for other universities and groups to want to join. This is why it was more valuable than MySpace where anyone could join. Facebook also restricted users to real people and tried to limit anonymous users. MySpace allowed anyone to do anything without any regulation.
Tom Sawyer learned this when he was painting a fence. This was a job that he didn’t want to do. When his friends came by he was embarrassed that he had to paint the fence, and that he would be punished if the fence wasn’t painted. Instead, he made up a story that painting a fence takes highly intelligent people with a fine eye for detail...this is why he was given the job. He ignored his friends as they watched him paint. Eventually jealous of his endeavor they began to beg him if they could help. He showed skepticism about their abilities, finally, he relented as long as they allowed instruction on how to paint a fence properly. He finally sat in the background and gave them pointers on how to paint properly.
If you want to follow your passion and form a tribe to follow you, you will need to avoid begging or trying to recruit other members. You will do your passion whether you receive approval or not. This is the attitude of the Rebel. The Rebel does not really care what others think of them of the Judgement that other people give them. The Rebel does things because this is what they have decided that it what they wanted to do at the moment. The Rebel does not let attachments toward other people or things control their actions.
In life you have a choice of being a Rebel, a Defender, or an Aggressor. Any of these can be used to develop your passion. However, you will succeed best if you become a Rebellious Defender or Rebellious Aggressor. The Rebel in you will help you will help you be less influenced by the Judgement and the Gossip of the rest of the world. This is one reason why people like Donald Trump because he doesn’t care what other people think, or respond to what he does. This signals to many people who are looking for a strong leader that can take care of things, and make the world right again. Of course, he has no power to do this, his acting like a leader by not overly caring what other people think of him triggered a response of followers.
To become a rebel and a leader, you need to learn the qualities of these two individuals. You can read the 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene which shows how people in the past established their leadership powers. You do not have to follow all 48 examples, but you can learn the basic attitudes by these people who became leaders, and that others wanted to follow.
Even Prince Machiavelli understood what people look for in a leader even though he recognized that these attitudes were evil, he came to a realization that this is what works. You don’t need to follow his evil principles, but instead what he did not understand is that the principles of leadership involved taking charge, and at times not giving fucks. Unfortunately when many people get a following become abusive and start treating people with a lack of compassion. You can still become a leader, and make sure that all of the followers are treated with respect and taken care of.
You are not trying to win over anyone with your passion. Your passion does not necessarily save your community, the world, or your friend's lives. If we focus on what in the world we would like to see happen, then those who see the benefit for themselves, the community, or the world, and will choose to help or not. The Rebel cares about the work, not the approval of others. Go do your passion.
